Two Sons - Two Brothers...

Lesson 2: Make and Keep a Schedule.

If your Mom or Dad moves to an assisted living home, an intermediate care facility, or a nursing home, establish a schedule as to visits, telephone calls, meals, day trips, and everything else that has to do with time. Because time is what Mom has trouble keeping track of. And the absence of time and events in time causes MAJOR anxiety. We mean MAJOR!

Establish a schedule that goes right down the to time and day. If you are going to visit on Tuesday, then say 'Tuesday at 5:30'. Set a departure time. It is very difficult thing to do. But randomness causes confusion. And Alzheimer's souls need stability. Keeping a schedule like ours is really difficult for people with families. Mom is lucky in that neither of us are married with children.
