Certainly the sounds were not the words of any known language. Perhaps they were related to the language employed by the mahouts to their elephants. A mahout does not use Hindi, Arabic, or Persian to the giant pachyderm he drives and keeps. Instead he employs a tongue of the caveman, wich the Stone Age man used when he first tamed the elephant over 50,000 years ago. The mahouts claim the elephant still remembers the original tongue an refused to understand any other.
