Bullshots, that's what the men drank, the princes and their friends, consomme and vodka. The elegant women drank rum drinks, double daiquiris or cinnamoned planter's punches, and sunned at the blue pool, those blue bloods from Europe and the hot young bloods over from Palm Beach and down from New York. Inside, in the grand, sweeping, tropical, slate-floored, glass and brick walled salon lobby, the inveterate contestants, those with whom backgammon was an absolute disease, went at it head to head in high-stake, intense practice games. This was The Lucanyan Beach; these were the early arrivers.
