Biography - The Early Years

I was born in New York City, June 28, 1949, at 5:00PM in the Sloan's Hospital for Women. My brother Ted and I grew up in River Edge, New Jersey. A suburb 10 miles NorthEast of New York City. We lived in a 4 bedroom, Ries, 2-story home that sold for $11,500 in 1949! Mom always said she didn't know how we were going to make the payments! She wore one housecoat for 5 years and got a weekly allowance of $10!
Dad spent many hours reading his spy and mystery pulp fiction novels. Dad, Ted, and me (L) outside our River Edge, New Jersey home, 1954
We would visit Nannie at W218th Street in Inwood section of New York City, right across from the Columbia boathouse. Here are some photos from the late 1940's of brother Ted at the Baker Park, Uncle Bill Wolf, Uncle Ken, Uncle Lew, and Uncle Bill.

We drove from New Jersey to Florida in 1955 to visit Grandma and Grandpa Davids. The lived in a bungelow in St. Petersburg. I would run across the street from the motel to have breakfast with Granddad! Here are some pics of their house and our visit to Ross Allen Snake Farm and Mullet Key, 1955.
